The SENTINEL from Zentauron is a rugged 55-liter backpack with a removable 10-liter lid. This results in a total volume of 65 liters. The lid was developed as a small additional backpack.

With its outer frame, it is designed as a professional and tactical backpack for heavy loads (25‒40 kg). It can be used as a BW backpack, army backpack or for leisure as a modular hiking and trekking backpack.

The backpack can be easily expanded in volume with other bags via the MOLLE system, giving the user the individual freedom to configure their personal backpack system to suit their particular needs. Accessory pouches can be attached directly to the backpack or to the backpack's hip belt. The removable lid takes over as a small backpack, for example, Escape & Evasion function.

The outer frame provides good ventilation in the back area and prevents heavy sweating and friction. For people wearing protective equipment such as plate carriers or protective vests, there is another advantage: the backpack does not press on the lower edges of the protective plate.

For optimal wearing comfort, the backpack is equipped with pads on the body contact surfaces. The backpack is made of robust Cordura, the material is FU impregnated and PU coated. The SENTINEL can be filled through two openings. Thus, it belongs to the top and front loaders.

Backpack - the main compartment

The main compartment of the SENTINEL is a combined front and top loader and has a capacity of 40 to 55 liters, depending on the compression of the rollup closure. This is located under the removable lid. There are slide-in pockets on the outer sides. These can hold, for example, drinks, water bottles or other equipment.

Top loader backpack

One way to load and unload equipment is to use the top opening, which has a roll closure.

The roll closure offers several advantages. For one, it is ideal for compressing the contents and adds stability to the backpack. Secondly, this type of closure ensures that the contents are protected from dust and moisture.

The principle of the rollup closure is simple and effective. The upper end is pulled apart at the two plastic plugs and rolled up several times. Then the plugs and housings are plugged together. This secures the closure.

Front loader backpack

The second way to load and unload equipment is to use the front opening. This opening can be partially or fully opened with a double zipper over a length of 18x50 cm. This allows the user to easily access luggage that is located in the lower part of the backpack.

On the inside of the front-loading opening, a lid compartment with a zipper is sewn into the entire surface. Here you can stow smaller pieces of equipment that should be quickly accessible. The zipper is protected from contamination and damage by overlapping fabric.

MOLLE system of the tactical backpack

MOLLE loops are sewn on the front of the SENTINEL, to which additional equipment can be attached. At the same time, they serve for tying off lashing straps. Above the front loader opening, optional accessory pouches can be attached to an area of three horizontal rows and seven vertical channels the MOLLE.

On the zippered opening of the front loader, there are five horizontal rows to attach accessory pouches with MOLLE in four vertical channels. They are also suitable for attaching the side compression straps.

Below the front loader opening, there are four horizontal rows on the left and right for attaching additional pouches with MOLLE in two vertical channels.

On the bottom, there are two horizontal rows with two channels on the left and right. Here smaller bags, sleeping bags or sleeping pads can be attached with MOLLE.

MOLLE attachment for side pockets

If additional space is needed, additional bags can be attached to the MOLLE receptacles on the sides of the backpack. The attachment areas on each side have six horizontal rows of five channel MOLLE loops.

Thus, the packing volume of the SENTINEL can be further increased individually. For example, the Zentauron combat pouch can be attached to the sides. With this extension it is possible to increase the maximum volume of the main compartment from 55 to 72 liters.

The carrying system with outer frame

Comfortable carrying of heavy loads over a longer period of time can best be realized by redistributing the load. This is done by shifting the load from the shoulders to the hips. For this purpose, a frame (outer frame) has been integrated into the backpack system.

The carrying system supports the load distribution and is particularly advantageous for wearers of protective equipment, protective vests and/or plate carriers. The frame provides sufficient distance to the back. This prevents chafing on the protective equipment and at the same time provides good ventilation, which minimizes perspiration.

The padding at the level of the shoulder blades ensures a comfortable feeling during longer marches. The outer frame is made of sturdy plastic and stiffens the back area over a length of about 50 cm. This increases the stability of the backpack and distributes the weight on the hips.

Padded hip belt

The padded hip belt is firmly attached to the outer frame and transfers the weight from the backpack to the hips. With a 40 mm wide webbing and with a sturdy plastic buckle, the hip belt is closed. The webbing is equipped with a "pull forward" loop for tightening. The circumference of the waist belt can be adjusted from 80 cm to a maximum of 120 cm.

Modularity on the waist belt

For smaller equipment and pouches, there are three horizontal rows on each side with five vertical channels for MOLLE receptacles on the hip belt. For example, small multi-purpose pouches or medic pouches can be attached. One can quickly access them during a march.

Shoulder straps

The approx. 7 cm wide shoulder straps ensure good weight distribution on the shoulders and are also padded. For optimal load distribution, there are load control straps on the shoulder strap that are connected to the backpack.

The load control straps should be at the level of the collarbone and fixed at an angle of about 20 - 30° towards the backpack. A puller at the end of the shoulder strap makes it easier to tighten when putting on the SENTINEL.

Chest strap

The chest strap provides further stability when carrying. It can be positioned almost freely on the webbing of the shoulder strap. The length of the chest strap can be adjusted via tri-bars and a plastic buckle.

Lid compartment as 10 liter Escape&Evasion pack

The lid compartment not only serves as additional storage space, but is also an Escape & Evasion pack with a capacity of approximately 10 liters. Items such as rainwear, maps, glasses or survival kits can be stored here.

The special feature of the SENTINEL is that the lid compartment can be separated from the main backpack via the included buckles, making it a small backpack or E&E pack (escape backpack). This gives the user the freedom to be independent of their main pack.

Also included here are Molle loops on the top to attach additional gear or Molle pouches.

On the front, there are five rows and six channels of MOLLE to attach additional multi-purpose pouches, such as our multi-purpose 'Horizontal' or 'Quadro' pouches.

There is a 5 x 10 cm Velcro area for labeling. Patches or name tapes can be attached. The lid compartment consists of a main compartment equipped with a double zipper. On the back of the lid compartment you will find another small zippered compartment.

The lid compartment is compressed via a rubber cord, to which cordell stoppers are attached at the top and sides.

The lidcompartment is attached to the backpack via 4 buckles. If you detach the lid compartment from the backpack, the four buckles are free to accept the included carrying straps. Then the lid compartment becomes a small backpack with 10 liters capacity. The carrying straps can also be used as a rucksack strap.

The Sentinel can be used as a tactical-military backpack, but can also be ideally used as a hiking or trekking backpack.
